Dragon Sponsors Nixon Surf Challenge in Iceland
The Nixon Surf Challenge, presented by Monster Energy, Dragon and Reef, is prepping to return to the cold in less than 10 days when it heads to Iceland from May 13-19, 2013 for the12th edition of this unique mobile surf event.
A bunch of Nixon team riders already confirmed their attendance, psyched at the prospect of experiencing Iceland's unique and mystical natural environment. Known as one of the most volcanically active locations in the world, Iceland's hypnotically beautiful coastline is also home to incredible waves.
France's Marc Lacomare, already itching to pull into Iceland's freezing barrels, is looking to defend the overall title he claimed in such emphatic style at last year's event, held in the altogether warmer waters of La Graciosa in the Canary Islands.
Lacomare will be in good company when he steps off the plane in Reykjavik, with a number of compatriots also on board. Big wave surfers Benjamin Sanchis and Eric Rebiere are crossing their fingers the event coincides with a monster swell, while Miky Picon is looking to repeat his triumphant cold-water performance at the Nixon Surf Challenge 2011 in the Lofoten Islands of Norway.
Another rider packing his bags for Iceland is the Canaries' own Jonathan Gonzales, who picked up the Best Trick award in his own backyard last year. Fellow Iberian surfers and Nixon team riders Gony Zubizarreta and Jose Maria Cabrera are also signed up, and all three will need to adapt quickly to the freezing water temperatures.
One man more used to the cold is Fergal Smith - no stranger to the north Atlantic swells that smash into the west coast of Ireland every winter. Other surfers joining the party next week include Marlon Lipke and Australia's Chippa Wilson, as well as Reef teamriders Vincent Duvignac and Kepa Acero Martinez.
"I've been fortunate enough to surf in some of the world's most remote and cold locations," says Kepa. "From Antarctica to Alaska, the spirit of exploration you feel in these places is something incredible. When I heard the Nixon Surf Challenge was heading to Iceland, I knew I wanted to be part of the experience - bring it on!"
Franck Corbery, Marketing Manager at Nixon Europe, said: "This year's event is shaping up nicely. After lengthy discussions with the team, it was decided we would head north to the little-known surf breaks of Iceland. The Nixon Surf Challenge is exactly that - a challenge. And there's no greater challenge than scoring epic waves in the kind of hostile environment that Iceland is so well known for."

Maui and Sons Arica Star World Tour 2012
This important global date will receive the most experienced surfers in the world who will compete for a week in one of the most dangerous and challenging waves on the planet such as the beach "El Gringo" in Arica event will be broadcast live through the official tournament website.
The current champion of this event, the Arica Guillermos Satt (19 years), one of two Chilean competing in the ASP world tour, is now trained in its wake "This year the competition level is among the top 100 tour , there are big names on the list and come from many parts of the world, so this will be a great challenge for me, "said the only national surfer has gained a worldwide tour date.
For the event have already confirmed their attendance riders of the caliber of the Brazilian Santiago Muniz, Ian Gouveia and wyggoly Dantas, the talented Peruvian Gabriel Villarán and Cristobal de Col, to which are added the mythical specialist tubes Pipeline (Hawaii) Lian McNamara, who travels with his son Landom McNamara, two great figures of American surfing.
They are only part of the exclusive list of competitors who will participate in this important global event, 3 stars.

Onboard/Dragon design contest
Christie Shinn, who is a 30 years old snowboarder living in Canada, is the winner of the Onboard/Dragon design competition ! Her crazy piece of art, composed with outstanding fishes, will be incorporated in the 2012 Dragon goggle line.
This contest was the third of its kind, and Tamara Magitteri’s winning design from last year is about to hit stores very soon !

Process Films - A Shot In The Dark

We had a great time interviewing Taylor Reeve and Schoph, and we hope that you will enjoy as much as we did to know more about them.
When and why did you start painting ?
SS : I began making art when I was young, I didn’t talk till an early age, but was always drawing from that I began messing around with paint, I’m not sure why maybe it was a way of expressing myself…why do people do a lot of things ?
Taylor : I have been painting since I was born. It kind of runs in my family on both sides ! I knew from the get go that this is what I wanted to do.
How do you define your style ?
SS : In my recent show my work has been classed as pop-surrealism, I’ve never really given it a title as such, but I guess pop-surrealism works for me.
Taylor : Bright, colorful, loud, wild, random, taylor
What are the materials you use to make one of your paintings ?
SS : I used to paint on wood then began on canvas, usually acrylic with a resin finish, but more recently experimenting with screening inks and oils combining all the mediums together.
Taylor : Acrylic and spray paint
Do you have any idea of the final result when you begin a new piece ?
SS : I used to have some kinda plan or thought for the finished piece, however now I am learning to just go with the painting on the days I paint it, and try to keep it as spontaneous as possible.
Taylor : I have a general idea of where I'm going to take a painting... but it usually ends up completely different than what I had originally planned. I kind of figure it out as I go. New ideas pop up all of the time- so there's really no telling what it's going to end up looking like!
What do you want people to feel when they look at your artworks ?
SS : An emotion. To pull I feeling from what they see.
Taylor : Happy, intrigued, fixated
Could you name 2 or 3 artists that really inspire you ?
SS : Pollock, Blaise Rosenthal, Lemmy
Taylor : Ralph Steadman, my late grandfather, Picasso and Schoph !
Is there any place where you permanently exhibit your art ?
SS : Ido have a few places that are interested each year on showing my work in the UK, however I’m working on doing more colab shows in the US Santa Cruz ,San Jose, San Fran, Laguna, there’s some great gallery spaces and artists here.
Taylor : The Parlor in Encintas, The Lumberyard Tavern and Grill, and my house!
Do you have other hobbies ?
SS : Music is a big thing in my life, I run my own company Dalikfodda with some close friends, as well as shred as much as I can in winter.
Taylor : Snowboarding, designing clothes, biking, hiking, camping, drinking, cooking....
Do you know each other for a long time ?
SS : I’ve known of Taylor for a long time, and here work, she dropped me a mail a while back about doing a show over here , Taylor’s a great artist and I respect her for what she does, it was a great opportunity for me.
Taylor : I've known Schoph for a while now- but only from the internet. We met through you guys (Dragon) and have always talked. Being that he lives in England it's no easy task to meet up. This was an amazing opportunity and I'm super pumped that we actually did the event. Schoph is awesome!
Could you give the first 3 words that come to your mind regarding her/his work ?
SS : Bad-ass-winner!

Last question, what’s next ?
SS : A colab show in London with taylor in august, sweeden to paint one of my favourite bands studios the awesome truckfighters , a group show in Harrogate, another hopefully in oct in France, and I’m working on a group show in Santa Cruz towards the end of the year… this all said who knows, just go with the flow yknow.

LA Shoot – Behind the Scenes...way, way behind...
While we were in LA shooting our new RetroSpect Collection (look for it later this year....super hot), we got a lot of work done. And we also got a lot of no work done. Does that make sense? Here are some outtakes from the LA shoot day.....How do I have this job? It’s amazing.
LA Barney – Ahhhh Hollywood Blvd....where people that have nothing better to do actually make a living dressing up as cartoon characters, Jack Sparrow, and...Barney?!? Do kids still watch that crap? Do they even know who Barney is anymore? Well..I do. It’s a white guy named Steve...wearing a Barney costume...sorry to crush your dreams children. Oh, and there’s no Santa Claus either. Harsh.
LA Dave – While out “scouting” on Day 1 in LA, Dave (Dragon’s Art Direction otherwise known as “Beaker”) and I came across some interesting things on the Venice boardwalk. Note to self, if I ever decided to be a pot head, I know where to get the goods....There was some incredible people watching that day and I think Dave and I left the boardwalk a little more worried about humanity than we were before. Dave looked for some guidance from the Zoltar machine and came up empty handed. Good thing he only pumped a few dollars into that thing. What a rip off.
LA Helmet – When I get bored I like to make fun of myself and do things that some people might call “embarrassing”. One of these things was to turn myself into an actual bobble head with the help of AJ’s new motorcycle helmet. Enjoy and you’re welcome.
LA Shoes – Adidas called, they want they’re entire 1982 collection back. Mad steez. Mad.
LA1 – Now, now, now...don’t everyone get all excited. I can’t even ride a normal bike, let alone a manly motorcycle. So no, I wasn’t riding this off into the sunset. I was merely entertaining the thought of trying to steal AJ’s bike when I realized that I don’t know how to ride one. So I took a picture on it instead. Thumbs up.
LA2 – CHiPs was a great show....great.
